A radiation-free way to stay ahead of your breast health

Most women only know one way to screen. A standard mammogram uses radiation. Meridian Thermal Health offers another option: safe, non-contact infrared imaging that gives you and your doctor more to work with, without the exposure.

Three ways to get a clearer picture, on their own or combined.

THERMOGRAPHY

Thermal Imaging

Non-contact infrared imaging for breast, full body, thyroid, and more. Our most requested screening.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound Screening

What Is Clinical Thermography

Clinical Thermography, also called medical infrared imaging, uses a digital scanner to record the infrared heat naturally given off by your body and turn it into a color coded map. Because tissue undergoing increased blood flow or inflammation tends to run warmer, these images can highlight patterns worth a closer look.

Non-contact, uses no ionizing radiation, and involves no compression. It gives you and your doctor another data point for the conversation, not a diagnosis, and not a replacement for mammography or the screening your doctor recommends.

Our Imaging Services

Full & Lower Body

Offers a different way to look at circulation and inflammation across the body.

Thyroid

A focused scan of the thyroid region for early detection of abnormalities

Maxillofacial

Thermal mapping of the face can highlight inflammation, sinus, or dental issues.

Clinical Thermologist

Meet Your Thermographer

Dana Whitfield B.S., BCTT, is a Board Certified Thermography Technician with 16 years of experience, and over 20 years in medical healthcare prior to that, including 10 years in pathology and surgery, where mastectomies, lumpectomies, and biopsies were commonplace.

Dana's own health challenge, combined with her medical background and love for holistic health, inspired her to research other ways of addressing breast health beyond the traditional norms of the time. Her rich experience and wisdom set her apart in helping women maintain good breast health.

Her education and experience allowed her to serve in hospitals and clinics such as Sutter Roseville, Mercy, Kaiser, and Roseville Community Hospital, acting as liaison between surgery and pathology and women's health, before founding her own thermography clinic in 2003, Meridian Thermal Health, in Roseville.

She believes every thermography technician should have a medical background to give women the best, most personalized care. After traveling as far as Germany, she found thermography to be an effective means of giving women data on potential future risk factors related to cancer and other disease processes.

Thermography FAQs

Is thermography different from a mammogram or ultrasound?

Yes. Mammograms and ultrasounds look at the physical structure of breast tissue. Thermography looks at physiological function, temperature and circulation patterns, which is a different kind of information, not a more accurate or faster one. That's why the two are complementary rather than interchangeable.

Does breast thermography replace a mammogram?

When used as part of a multi-modal approach (thermography plus clinical examination, ultrasound, and mammography), 95 to 98 percent of early stage breast cancers can be detected.

When should I get my first thermogram?

Many providers suggest establishing a personal baseline in your twenties or thirties, well before typical mammogram screening begins around age 40. Because thermography looks at how your body is functioning rather than its structure, an early baseline gives you and your thermographer something to compare future scans against. Talk with your thermographer or physician about what timing makes sense for you.

How often should breast thermography be done?

As early as 25 for early detection. Annually is common for women 40 and over, with more frequent follow-up sometimes recommended for higher-risk cases. Your report will include a suggested follow-up interval.

What does the procedure involve?

The imaging itself takes about 30 minutes, with no radiation and no body contact. Your health history is reviewed with you at your appointment, and imaging is performed privately by a female, board-certified thermography technologist. Interpretation and your written report are prepared after you leave.

What does full body imaging offer?

A full body scan looks at temperature and circulation patterns across the whole body in under an hour, often used as part of a general wellness routine or alongside your other care. Because these patterns can shift before a structural change would show up on a CT or MRI, some clients use it as an early data point to bring to their provider. You'll receive a complete written report, with copies sent to your healthcare provider on request.
